Thanks, Meaghan! I think I first got into CSP because of its comic associations. It has useful built-in tools for doing panel frames and word balloons, for example, and lots of features aimed towards managing line thickness and so on. All stuff you can do in other programs, I'm sure, but it's more front and centre in CSP.

The model stuff is something I haven't used as much as I should have. I've now discovered that you can sculpt quite unusual head shapes, creating quite unique caricatures, so definitely intend to poke at it more!

What's interesting here is you're still using AI assisted tools - using a phone to pose is AI, and the shader assist is AI - but these tools are being used to help you design exactly what you want from the ground up rather than just inputting a prompt and having the AI keep generating until it spits out something you like.

"As you know" I like this design. It carries a few echoes of lovely, chunky 80's anime - specifically the Mars Division armor from Mospeada/Robotech, which is one of my favorite designs ever.

For those who don't know the design, here's a brilliant, absolutely perfect cosplay version. I haven't been able to track down the name of the creator and/or model, but whoever built it absolutely nailed it.

For those who don't know this armor fits a motorcycle rider and the cycle reconfigures into exoskelital power armor. Cool design which is ALMOST plausible, although every toy requires removing the bike's engine to transform.

Absolutely. And I've always been very enthusiastic about new technologies to aid with creativity - I mean, that's why we know each other, from being in the indie VFX scene back in the 2000s.

There are two aspects to whether a tool feels satisfying and useful, or simply a 'cheat', I think. The first is the end result: does the resulting image still feel like it is 'mine'? And second, was the creation process fun?

With MidJourney, the answers to those questions tend to be "maybe" and "not really".

Being able to heavily customise the head references in CSP and then save them for future use makes me think I might be able to make some progress on comics.
