I really need to work on this. I was lucky with Playtime's Over that Propolis' in-house designer gave me a perfect cover, utterly brilliant. As a hybrid author, though, my self-published covers have been, to date, fairly woeful.

Something I really want to do is somehow have the budget to commission artists more often. There are several great artists in and around Norwich I'd love to work with (Charli Vince and El Horno for starters) on a cover (and/or illustrations!) but I can't make sense of the budget at the moment. Perhaps if my Substack grows significantly, or I manage to put out some ebooks, that might put me in a different position.

An El Horno cover would be amazing. But I know what you mean, the budget thing is a big puzzle. How do you make the money to afford stuff like that without spending it in the first place to boost the sales?

Exactly. I'd love for semi-passive Substack subscription income to at least partially cover this kind of thing, rather than relying on direct book sales, but I'm a long way from that point. Still....nice to have a plan, eh?
