Feels almost like an epilogue to the current arc, or to use a TV comparison, like the last bit after the main episode plot has been resolved that continues the overarching show/season plot. I appreciate how it was built up earlier, definitely a fitting conclusion.
Thanks, William. That continual push and pull with an ongoing serial I find really fascinating to play with - the story is continually ending and beginning again, in big and small ways. Each chapter/episode has to be satisfying in isolation, while also building the whole.
It's something that I think a lot of current television doesn't do very well, too often feeling like a movie cut into pieces, with episode breaks being rather arbitrary.
Looking at how people talk about some Star Wars shows has convinced me streaming made them forget how serialized fiction works and they would not survive pre streaming TV. I wish shows had more breathing room these days, The Mandolorian could do with more episodes of wandering onto a troubled planet of the week (especially season 3, that cop show like episode was one of the best parts).
I'm very envious of your style! I don't really have a defined visual style, so every sketch I do is a bit random. I'm presuming a personal style will emerge at some point, if I keep drawing regularly, much like it did with my writing. :)
Oh thank you so much! Its a lot like writing! And much like writing - I can't really tell you what my style is haha but other people tell me when its there. I think style just kind of emerges out of experimenting with what you like/what speaks to you. It's been really cool to see all your experiments this month - you've got a great eye for interesting angles
Thanks. :) I studied film and worked in film-adjacent stuff for a long while, doing a fair bit of cinematography, VFX and storyboarding back in the day, which I think gave me a decent grounding in framing and lighting. Translating that into drawn images rather than something shot with a camera is HARD, but it's helpful having some of those basics in my head still.
Off topic, re: one of your recent Notes, wishing for a way to sort your inbox, and in particular your paid subs. I've only just noticed that the "paid" label is only applied if the particular newsletter is behind the paywall, so it turns out that's not super helpful, given that most subs make the majority of content free.
The "preview" label is handy though, to identify the stack requires a paid sub if you want to read the full newsletter.
With losing his mother and his relationship with Nisha not going well, I hope you're not moving Zoltan to a place of emotional distress where he can "fall to the dark side."
Love this chapter and your style. Drawings too. So talented.
Thank you! Very kind of you.

Ouch.
Yeah.

Let's hope not!
