That "rogue condom" is highly suggestive, as is the fact that he didn't immediately summon his army of lawyers. This narrative is intriguing!

Also, cool beans on being listed alongside Margaret Atwood. If you keep getting compared to literary giants, don't let it go to your head (not worried about that).

Also, Nisha, seriously, jump Zoltan soon. Try not to get weird about it the next day. Yes, you'll have a messed up, disfunctional thing, but it's still an improvement on where you both are now, and maybe you can improve and make it healthy!

This is a great piece of writing! Drawn in from that anadiplosis of your opening!

I love Atwood too. She's just adorable! Her Masterclass is super good if you haven't seen it! She made me laugh so much!

Anadiplosis! Wow! I have not heard that term before, despite being a fan of the technique. :)

Thanks. :)

Oooh! Pick up a copy of The Elements of Eloquence by Mark Forsyth! It's an eye-opener!

Today I learned the term "anadiplosis." This makes my day better.

Great as usual, Simon. Had a smile at Boorman having the habit of repeating things like a famous stupid politician we could note who probably just did it because he couldn’t think of what word came after the last. Not that I think Boorman is daft. Be interesting to see his grand plan and how it ties back to other cases 🤔

I find it interesting how repeating back what someone has said can be used in all sorts of different ways. It's useful for embedding something in memory (eg when someone introduces their name), or for giving yourself extra time to think before actually replying. There's also what Boorman is doing here, where it's almost like he's testing what they've just said, examining it to see if it was up to his standards. The implicit suggestion being that he looks down on just about everyone.

Today I learned side-swiping in the Substack app takes me forward and backwards in your Newsletter timeline.

Also, "anadiplosis." What a wonderful word!

It seems Nisha and Zoltan have, for the nonce, overlooked PRIVATE FUCKING ELEVATOR AND CONCIERGE MEANS BOORMAN KNOWS WHO EVERY PERSON AT THE PARTY WAS! No, the reader wasn't at all frustrated waiting for one of them to say it.

Makeup smooth complexion and habit of repeating everything back? I'd not be surprised if Boorman was non-human.

Although it's a chapter later I'm thinking if magical energies quickly disperse in Mid-Earth, cutting what seems to be a "power battery" potion with cocaine is an expensive process requiring quick manufacture and distribution. Yet another thing requiring corruption among the mega rich and powerful. Almost like there's a theme...

Also noting it was long ago I assumed there had to be some way of creating a "magic battery." Yeah, there obviously is, else you don't have Magick drug.

But is a non-human Boorman from Palinor (since you've just shown at least one way he could keep an illusion going he could be Aen'fa or koth) or Max Earth? A second rogue AI is unlikely, but possible.

Or I'm reading too much into things, and the repeating things back is just pretentious and annoying.

Boorman and I could have words on audio fidelity. I can't make an argument about quality of composition between 1970's and the 26th century (which presumably has too much algorithm-generated crap), but for where the audio reproduction quality of Max-Earth 100% must have, based on 2010 tech, Boorman is wrong. Digital audio reproduction in Max-Earth will be flawless. If you actually want the full tech breakdown, ask.
