FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
29 September 1960 - The Metropolitan Police today revealed plans to form a new department designed to address the rise in portal-related criminal activity. The Specialist Dimensional Command will be led by Detective Chief Superintendent Frank Walpole, who was appointed by Commissioner Matthew Graves following the success of the New Flying Squad.
The Specialist Dimensional Command (SDC) will begin as a detective-only squad with the specific remit of investigating any crime pertaining to portal access. Such investigations are beyond the resources and jurisdiction of the main Metropolitan Police, due to their inherently multi-dimensional nature. Requiring careful liaising with counterparts in both Palinor and Max-Earth, the work of the SDC will be as much political as it is policing.
The squad will consist of detectives from across the Kingdom of Great Britain, reassigned to London for the duration of their service in the SDC. Each detective will undergo specialist training on top of their standard detective exams to equip them with the vital skills and insight required for a modern response to the challenges of illegal portal use.
Also joining the SDC are Detective Chief Inspector James Miller and Detective Inspectors Christopher Bakker, Robert Ford and Lois Morgan, all of whom bring a wealth of shared experience. There will be three shifts of Detective Constables, enabling round-the-clock capacity with flexibility to adapt to the complex requirements of portal work.
Commissioner Matthew Graves said:
“It has become increasingly obvious that there is a need for a dedicated department for portal criminality. I am very pleased that London now has the Specialist Dimensional Command, the first of its kind in the world. DCS Frank Walpole has my utmost confidence and I look forward to his team making a real difference to the lives of citizens in London and further afield.”
Detective Chief Inspector James Miller said on behalf of Detective Chief Superintendent Frank Walpole:
“I have worked with DCS Walpole on numerous occasions and can’t wait to get started on developing the Specialist Dimensional Command. We will have the best trained, best equipped detectives in the country, charged with tackling the most difficult cases we’ve ever had. This squad will bring justice not only to London but to all inhabitants of the Triverse.”
The SDC is fully funded for the next three years. A new base of operations separate to Scotland Yard has been established, in close proximity to the portal station on the south bank of the Thames. The SDC’s jurisdiction includes all of Metropolitan London, with special arrangements made with the appropriate authorities on Max-Earth and Palinor.
