Just spent a few minutes listening to your J. Michael Straczynski interview -- very cool! Have to get back to work now, but I'll have to download it for the next time I'm snowblowing. I'm always on the lookout for great podcasts, so thanks for that!

Question for you -- and let me know if it's too personal -- I visited the One Further site you linked to, and it seems completely different from what you were doing before. What prompted the switch?

(I'm no stranger to wearing different hats, btw -- just curious to know how you went from essentially broadcasting to essentially digital marketing...!)

Good luck with the move in any case!

Enjoy the pods when you get a chance to listen! Straczynski was very, very generous with his time.

The switch isn't as drastic as it probably appears on paper. My role at the National Centre for Writing (where I have been producing the Writing Life podcast) is actually as 'Digital marketing manager', so the job title isn't even changing. :) Digital marketing has been intrinsic to what I do, but that can be quite a big, broad topic, especially in the arts/non-profit world. Also, One Further specialise in marketing and analytics for arts/cultural orgs, so I'm staying within that general area of working with interesting organisations which (hopefully) contribute positively to society.

Ha - yes, it's interesting how "drastic on paper" is actually not that drastic...!

I think about my grandfather and his generation working one job their whole lives, maybe working their way up to foreman or something, maybe transferring to a different company. But basically the same job. So much different today! Especially for creatives. And even when it is "the same job" (e.g. Digital Marketing Manager), each can have vastly different job descriptions, expectations, and day-to-day tasks.

Personally, I prefer that -- keeps things interesting and alive.
