The tripod space elevator solved an awkward plot issue: Zoltan and the container had gone through the London portal. Max-Earth is equivalent to Mid-Earth space, so he'd be geographically in the same spot. However, I wanted it to be a rapid space elevator setup to enable the fast transit of cargo to the moon and other planets - it made most sense.
Problem with that is that you'd never build a space elevator in the UK, because they have to be tethered equatorially. Hence frantic research, and being extremely pleased to find that a space elevator tripod is indeed a theoretical Thing. Enabled an equatorial elevator anchored to the African continent, but with the additional tethers and transit points at other key locations on the planet.
A (sort of) scientific solution to a potential plot hole! I was most pleased.
It's the best! It's why I love The Expanse - they use real-ish science to create and enhance the drama. Rather than using made-up science to fix writing mistakes. :)
Fortunately for Zoltan I don't think the author will send him to Max-Earth merely to die an ignominious death.
You may be the first sf story writer I've encountered who did a tripod base on a beanstalk. Well done!

Isn't it nice when you get to use real science?
