Hello! I’m a writer of serialised science fiction and fantasy and I put all of my work up online for anyone to read. Eventually these things will become books, but you can get in early and see them being built.

I also share writing tips and insights. It’s all entirely free, and you can become a paid subscriber if you’d like to support the newsletter.

My work tends to be optimistic, empathetic and progressive in its themes.

My current fiction project is Tales from the Triverse, a science fiction crime thriller. Season 1 recently completed and so far it’s been about immigration, people trafficking, racism and abuse of power. Also dragons, shape-shifters and robots.

Why subscribe?

When I send out a newsletter you’ll get it direct to your inbox. Here’s how it works:

  • Mondays - writing tips and techniques, free for everyone. I tend to focus on the craft of serialised storytelling and useful technology for writers.

  • Wednesdays - (very) occasional bonus story materials.

  • Fridays - new chapters of my science fiction crime thriller Tales from the Triverse, with optional early access for readers who would like to more directly support the project.

You can pick and choose which bits of the newsletter you receive, if you’re not interested in all of it.

Simon K Jones writes is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

About early access

Paying for a subscription is a great way to support the project, if you can afford it. It is entirely optional, though! In addition to supporting my writing, you get early access to my weekly serial Tales from the Triverse plus bonus bits and pieces.

You can check out my previous three books in their entirety for free on Wattpad:

The Mechanical Crown is my epic fantasy adventure, packed full of airships, swords, battles and politics. It’s big and exciting and I’m very proud of it.

No Adults Allowed is an optimistic, post-apocalypse mixture of Lord of the Flies and Heart of Darkness, but with a central thesis being that young people are amazing.

A Day of Faces was my debut and is a YA coming-of-age story about a snake girl and her shape-shifting friend who accidentally wind up changing the world. It’s hard to explain. You should probably just read it.

Who is Simon K Jones anyway?

I’m a writer based in Norwich, England.

Just so that you know what you’re getting into, this is me:

My debut novel A Day of Faces was serialised in 2015 and 2016, winning a Watty Award in 2016 and hitting over 179,000 reads online. It’s about youth, revolution and shape-shifting animal people. I completed a 3-year, serialised, weekly run on my follow-up book The Mechanical Crown in 2019 and was selected by Wattpad for their Star programme. In 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic I serialised the YA novel No Adults Allowed, a post-apocalyptic alternative to Lord of the Flies which turned out to be more timely than expected. I’m currently publishing weekly chapters of my fourth book, Tales from the Triverse, which is a mash-up of a police procedural, science fiction and fantasy.

You might have heard me on The Writing Life podcast which I produced until early 2022. I’ve spoken about serialisation at Primadonna Festival and for the National Centre for Writing. I’ve also taught for the BBC, FutureLearn, LinkedIn Learning, Access Creative and the Africa Game Developers Community. These days I work at One Further helping cultural organisations do exciting digital things..
