Hello! I’m a writer of serialised fiction and I put all of my work up online for anyone to read. This newsletter is where I offer early access to my stories and share writing tips and insight from my own experience.
My current fiction project is Tales from the Triverse, a collision of crime fiction, science fiction and fantasy that I’m hoping feels like a mix of Gotham Central and The Wire but with more portals.
When I send out a newsletter you’ll get it direct to your inbox (yes, along with all those other newsletters). Here’s how it works:
Mondays - writing tips and techniques, free for everyone. I tend to focus on the craft of serialised storytelling and useful technology for writers.
Wednesdays - bonus story materials for paid subscribers
Fridays - early access to Tales from the Triverse for paid subscribers
About early access
Getting a paid subscription is a great way to support my writing, if you enjoy reading it. You get early access to my weekly serial Tales from the Triverse plus bonus materials and stories.
My current early access project is Tales from the Triverse, a fantasy police procedural set across multiple alternate dimensions. You can read the opening chapters for free, starting here.
If you want to see what kind of stuff I write you can check out my previous three books in their entirety for free on Wattpad.
The Mechanical Crown is my epic fantasy adventure, packed full of airships, swords, battles and politics. It’s big and exciting and I’m very proud of it.
No Adults Allowed is an optimistic, post-apocalypse mixture of Lord of the Flies and Heart of Darkness, but with a central thesis being that young people are amazing.
A Day of Faces was my debut and is a YA coming-of-age story about a snake girl and her shape-shifting friend who accidentally wind up changing the world. It’s hard to explain. You should probably just read it.
Be part of the process
I’m looking for feedback on my writing. As a paid subscriber you can comment on each new chapter and interact with me and other readers. I ‘live write’ the books, writing and publishing as I go, and you get to be in there right from the start.
Who is Simon K Jones anyway?
I’m a writer based in Norwich, England. I write science fiction and fantasy, much of it released in serialised form online. My novels on Wattpad have 270,000 reads, I won a Watty Award in 2016 and became a Wattpad Star in 2020.
Just so that you know what you’re getting into, this is my face:
You might have heard me on The Writing Life podcast which I produce and co-host. I’ve spoken about serialisation at Primadonna Festival and for the National Centre for Writing. I’ve also taught for the BBC, FutureLearn, LinkedIn Learning, Access Creative and the Africa Game Developers Community.
My debut novel A Day of Faces was serialised in 2015 and 2016, winning a Watty Award in 2016 and hitting over 179,000 reads online. It’s about youth, revolution and shape-shifting animal people. I completed a 3-year, serialised, weekly run on my follow-up book The Mechanical Crown in 2019 and was selected by Wattpad for their Star programme. In 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic I serialised the YA novel No Adults Allowed, a post-apocalyptic alternative to Lord of the Flies which turned out to be more timely than expected.
My How to Write Serialised Fiction short guide continues to be read by emerging online writers around the world.
