Collects all stories in a convenient ebook
Hello from rainy Norwich. Here’s something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time: Tales from the Triverse is now available as a collected edition in ebook form!
The ebook can be loaded onto your phone, tablet or Kindle and read in a much more natural way than clicking through a million Substack posts.
What’s in the ebook?
The short answer is: everything! Seeing Triverse brought together into a single volume like this is really exciting. It’s the best way to catch up on the series or dive in for a re-read. Here’s what’s included:
Over 29 stories and one-shots from 2021 to now, presented in ebook form
Includes all bonus material, with high resolution images
That’s over 590 pages of science fiction and fantasy detective stories!
I’m hoping the ebook opens up the story to new readers. Tales from the Triverse can, at last, be read like a normal book.
How to get it
The ebook is a perk of being a paid subscriber. When you upgrade to the monthly or annual plans you immediately get the download link. The monthly subscription is only £4 / $5, which is conveniently close to the price of an ebook!
You can of course still read Triverse entirely for free, starting here. The ebook is by far the best way to binge the whole thing, though!
Here’s a look at the ebook on my Android phone:
Why make an ebook?
Making an ebook available is an important step to addressing some of the trickiness with publishing long-form serials online. I talked about this way back in September:
I’m hoping this turns out to be a win-win. Good for readers, a proper, exciting thank-you reward for paid subscribers, and a decent incentive for people to upgrade their subscription. I’m always poking around at the edges of how writers can find more success in writing online, so I’ll certainly report back on whether this turns out to be a good idea or not.
To answer some other questions you might have up front:
Can I get the ebook on Amazon or other stores? This collected edition is exclusive to subscribers and won’t be available elsewhere. I’m considering other ebook releases, but those will be in a different form and are probably at least a year away.
Why do I have to upgrade my subscription? I put most of my work out for free, including the weekly Triverse chapters. I also believe writers and artists should be paid for their creative efforts. This is my way to tick both of those boxes!
What happens when the ebook gets out of date? I’m still publishing weekly chapters of Triverse via this newsletter, so the story is far from over. I’ll update the ebook periodically to make sure it includes the latest stories. As long as you’ve still got a paid sub you then update your ebook to the new version.
Do I need to get the annual subscription to get the ebook? Nope! Monthly is fine. You don’t even have to continue your subscription if you don’t want to. Of course, I’d love for you to support my writing and the newsletter, but only if you can afford it.
How is this different to the free Triverse sample? If you grabbed the Triverse sample from a giveaway, it’s quite a different thing. The sample is only the opening three stories: there’s been a lot more since then!
What else does a subscription get me? In addition to the ebook, paid subscribers get access to occasional paid-only newsletters and can comment on all posts, including the latest Triverse chapters. Mainly, you’re supporting the newsletter and helping me keep the lights on. Thanks! :)
To everyone who has already downloaded the ebook: enjoy!

I'd be keen to hear in a future post about what your conversion rate ends up being of free readers --> subscribers seeking to get the ebook.
And also the same again if/when you release an Amazon ebook--how the sales of that go.
I have a serial I posted the first volume of to substack, but it gets the most reads from FanFiction dot net (where I also post it because it is Final Fantasy adjacent) and RoyalRoad. Some of those readers have converted to paying early access readers on Patreon, but I plan to edit up and release the serial as an ebook one day too, also to paying patrons and on Amazon.
Did you edit Triverse again before you turned it into an ebook?
And how many words will Triverse likely hit in the end? I'm at 220,000 with Saga of the Jewels, but aiming for 1,000,000. So about 25% through first draft after three years...
Wow, that's a lot of writing! Congratulations on the progress 🎉🎉🎉 I'm curious how you're handling distribution if not through Kindle yet. Are you emailing a dropbox or similar link?
